Lighting done properly
Downlights are the job we are most often called back to fix after someone else. Spacing decides whether a kitchen is evenly lit or striped with shadow; beam angle and colour temperature decide whether it feels like a home or a waiting room; fire-rated fittings and correct clearance from insulation decide whether it is safe.
Dimming is the other common failure. LED lamps need a dimmer designed for trailing-edge LED loads and a load within the dimmer's range, otherwise you get flicker, buzz and early failure. We match the dimmer to the lamps rather than fitting whatever is in the box.
JMO does not install smart home or automation systems, lighting control here means conventional switching, dimming, sensors and timers, specified and installed to work reliably.
Kitchens, bathrooms and lofts
Kitchens concentrate high loads: ovens, hobs, dishwashers, washing machines and small appliances on the worktop. Additional sockets there need the circuit capacity checked, and appliance connections need accessible isolation.
Bathrooms are governed by zones, which dictate the IP rating of anything installed and restrict where accessories can go at all. Lofts need fittings kept clear of insulation and cable supported and protected where it crosses joists.

How much does it cost to add a socket?
It depends on the position, the cable route and how much making good is involved, a socket back to back with an existing one is far quicker than one across a room. Quotes are free and given in writing before work starts.
How long does it take?
Most socket and lighting jobs are completed in a single visit, often within a few hours. Larger schemes such as a full set of downlights across several rooms may take a day.
Will you make a mess?
Dust sheets and floor protection go down as standard, chases are cut tight and vacuumed at source, and the area is cleaned before we leave. Chases are filled unless you have a decorator following on.
Do I get a certificate for small jobs?
Yes: a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate is issued for alterations and additions, with the test results recorded.
Can you add sockets in a bathroom?
Only what the zones allow, shaver sockets and correctly rated accessories in permitted positions. Jon will explain exactly what can and cannot go where.
Why do my LED downlights flicker when dimmed?
Almost always a mismatch between the dimmer and the LED load. We fit dimmers rated for the lamps actually installed, which resolves flicker and buzzing.
How long will new sockets and lighting last?
Quality accessories installed correctly last for decades; LED fittings typically run for many years of normal use. The circuit work carries a twelve month workmanship guarantee.
Can you come out urgently if a socket has burnt out?
Yes. A scorched or burning socket is an emergency, isolate the circuit and call. Emergency attendance is available 24/7, charged at £140 per hour outside standard hours of 8:00am to 5:30pm.
